Hi, We're Shae & Kane

Dance is the reason we found each other, and the reason we're on this journey together. What started as two dancers sharing the floor became a partnership, in life and in love. We know firsthand what it feels like when a dance becomes something more than steps and counts: a way of connecting, of falling in love, of building something lasting.

That's the feeling we want every couple to walk away with.

Your First Dance was created to help couples feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely excited about their wedding dance. We combine professional dance instruction with a relaxed, supportive approach that makes learning fun, even if you've never danced before.

Every couple is different, which is why every lesson is tailored to you. From selecting the perfect song to creating choreography that feels natural and effortless (and looks just as good on camera, thanks to Kane's background as a camera operator), we're here to guide you every step of the way.

Our goal isn't perfection. It's helping you enjoy the experience, connect with your partner, and step onto the dance floor feeling like the best version of yourselves.

We're so excited to be part of your wedding journey. ❤️

Our Approach

We believe your first dance should feel like a celebration, not another item on your wedding to-do list.

That's why we take a personalized approach with every couple we work with. Whether you've been dancing for years or have never stepped onto a dance floor together, we'll meet you where you are and create a dance that feels comfortable, natural, and uniquely yours.

Our lessons focus on building confidence, connection, and ease. We break everything down into simple, manageable steps, creating a fun and supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace.

From your song selection and choreography to the final finishing touches, we're here to guide you every step of the way. Our goal is never to make you look like professional dancers, it's to help you feel confident enough to enjoy every second of your moment together.

Founder

Shae is a Vancouver-born and raised dancer whose passion for movement began at just three years old. Her love of dance propelled her to pursue a professional career, taking her across film, television, and live performance. On screen, Shae can be seen in shows including Riverdale, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Starstruck: A Cinderella Story, and many more. She has had the privilege of working alongside renowned choreographers including Mandy Moore, Jillian Meyers, Jamal Sims, Heather Laura Gray, Kelly Konno, Louise Hradsky, Jeffrey Mortensen, and Scott Hislop.

Shae has also captivated audiences on stage, performing to sold-out crowds in productions such as Smoke Show, The Darlings Cabaret, and Rock Legends at the Chemainus Theatre Festival. She has also had the honour of opening for the hit podcast Girls Gotta Eat, bringing her energy, storytelling, and passion for performance to every stage she steps onto.

Outside of dance, Shae is a Vancouver-based Realtor who loves helping people find their dream homes and creating meaningful connections beyond the dance floor. Whether she’s performing, teaching, or guiding clients through one of life’s biggest milestones, Shae brings the same creativity, dedication, and personal touch to everything she does.

Kane grew up in the small farm town of Breton, Alberta, where he took his first dance steps at age four in his mother's studio. That early spark turned into a career that's taken him around the world, from sharing the stage with Janet Jackson in Edmonton, to appearing in Disney's Descendants franchise, Netflix's Julie and the Phantoms, and the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, where he was a two-season recurring performer, just a few highlights from a career with countless credits. His screen work also includes Riverdale, The Flash, Once Upon a Time, and Paramount's Star Trek Beyond, among many others. Along the way, he's worked with some of the industry's most respected choreographers and directors, including Kenny Ortega, Mandy Moore, Jamal Sims, and Director X, to name just a few.

Kane is also an experienced Steadicam operator, having spent years on set learning how the camera sees movement. He brings that same eye to your first dance, helping you choreograph and position your routine so it looks as beautiful on video as it feels in the moment, giving you a wedding video you’ll want to watch again and again.

Now based in Vancouver, Kane brings that same experience, patience, and love of storytelling through movement to every couple he works with, helping you feel confident, connected, and like yourselves on the dance floor, no professional experience required.
